Texas is 4th Most Unsafe State in America, According to Study

Texans: hold onto your stereotypical ten gallon hats. A new report shows that the bluebonnet state is the fourth most unsafe in the nation.

In the list of the safest states in America, Texas came in at #47. We were accompanied by our southern neighbors, with Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi taking gold, silver and bronze – had it been a list of the most unsafe states. Even Florida, land of wild gators and utterly bizarre news stories, beat us out at #46.

What does this mean?

Safety was monitored across 48 key indicators grouped into five categories: personal & residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness.

According to the study, our problems are largely concentrated in three of the five categories. We ranked #43 in both personal safety and road safety, which considers mass shootings and other violent crimes as well as accident-related deaths, DUIs, and road quality respectively. We also ranked #48 in disaster preparedness, which might be considered in light of 2017’s unexpected deadly hurricane season.

The six New England states are all in the overall top 10: Vermont #1, Maine #2, Minnesota #3, Utah #4, New Hampshire #5, Connecticut #6, Rhode Island #7, Hawaii #8, Massachusetts #9, Washington #10

https://wallethub.com/edu/safest-states-to-live-in/4566/

My state, Connecticut, is #1 in personal and residential safety.
Vermont is #2
Maine is #4
Rhode Island is #5
New Hampshire #7
Massachusetts #8
New Jersey (not a NE state) is surprisingly #10 in the personal safety category

How on Earth is Illinois #2 in road safety? Arizona is #50

But Arizona is #1 in workplace safety. I'd guess this category is strongly driven by how much or how little manufacturing there is in the state

Colorado is #1 in financial safety and New Mexico is #50

Alaska is #1 in Emergency Preparedness. Florida, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, & Mississippi are in order #46, #47, #48, #49, and #50

The one thing you can say when you get south of Chicago is that the traffic density is very low and the roads are mostly straight.

an issue in IL, among other things . The difference say in the driving restictions and what it takes to obtain a license here as a teenager for my kids vs. my cousin's kids in AZ is a big one.
Even my cousin said he wished those restrictions and requirements were in place in AZ!!

White has been an advocate on traffic safety issues. In 2007, he initiated teen driver safety legislation giving Illinois one of the top-ranked[7] graduated driver licensing (GDL)[8] programs in the country. In the first full year of the new law, teen fatal crashes in Illinois dropped by over 40 percent.[9]

White has also worked to crack down on DUI. He partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) on key DUI legislation.[10] Effective January 1, 2009, the new law requires all first-time DUI offenders who wish to obtain driving relief to install a breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID) on their vehicles.[citation needed] MADD called this one of the most important pieces of DUI legislation passed in Illinois in several years.[citation needed]

Since taking office White has worked to improve truck safety and the CDL licensing process. In his first year in office, White initiated a comprehensive highway safety package to tighten up the rules and regulations of the CDL licensing process. Most recently, White implemented a key policy change beginning May 1, 2008 in which out-of-state Commercial driver's license holders moving to Illinois must take and pass the written and road tests before they are issued an Illinois CDL. Illinois was the first state in the nation to require these tests for licensed CDL holders moving from another state.[citation needed] The policy change has received praise from law enforcement and trucking industry

Low tolerence + big fines for big offenses keep the laws observed also....)
I will vote for him again this year...even though he is over 80 he is doing well and a friend of the community....
In 1999 White was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame as a Friend of the Community.[25] In 2015, he received the Jane Addams Award for Distinction in Social Service from the Chicago History Museum.[26]<Wiki

Are beer, Poptarts, masking tape and tarps. I guess official disaster plans for the area are on the same level. It makes me sad, because we’ve had so many opportunities to learn how to deal with hurricanes.
