Meechaiel Criner guilty in UT student Haruka Weiser's death
AUSTIN -- A Travis County jury found Meechaiel Criner guilty of capital murder in the 2016 death of University of Texas student Haruka Weiser.
Criner, 20, was sentenced to life in prison by state District Judge David Wahlberg.
Weiser’s father, Dr. Thomas Weiser, addressed Criner from the witness stand and said, “what can a father say to the one that killed his daughter?”
Weiser, a medical doctor in Portland, said he believes Criner would have continued to kill and sexually assault women.
