Open space advocate launches recall effort against El Paso Mayor Dee Margo
The fight over open space in El Paso has led to a recall effort against Mayor Dee Margo.
El Pasoan Zachary Gonzalez, an open space advocate, on Thursday filed with the city clerk a notice of his intent to circulate a petition to remove Margo from office.
An amendment to the petition was filed Friday.
Gonzalez said he was motivated to seek Margo's removal from office because he and other supporters of the Lost Dog Trailhead in West El Paso have been ignored when trying to express their concerns.
The city of El Paso has approved a plan to redevelop land that includes the Lost Dog Trailhead as a mixed-use commercial and residential space. Opponents of the plan have urged city representatives to keep Lost Dog as an open space available to all El Pasoans.
