Cruz raises $12 million July-September, lagging O'Rourke's expected haul

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said Thursday he raised $12 million in the third quarter of 2018, an impressive haul but one that he said he expects will be dwarfed by Democratic rival Beto O’Rourke’s fundraising in the same three-month period ending Sept. 30.

O’Rourke, a congressman from El Paso, hasn’t announced his third quarter total yet.

“So third quarter, we raised over $12 million, which is a record. That is the most ever raised in a single quarter in a U.S. Senate race in the state of Texas,” Cruz said at a news conference in Plano, where he held a campaign event.

“That is good news,” Cruz said. “That is a sign conservatives all over the state of Texas are stepping forward and engaging in this fight. We’re grateful for that.”
