Related: About this forumDear Abby, My brother and BIL are going to the Trump/Cruz rally in Houston tomorrow.
My BIL paid for tickets and invited my brother since my sister doesn't feel safe because of (antifa, BLM, gay pride activists, women's movement marchers). While I respect my brother's right to participate in the political process, I am not looking forward to the taunting that will occur when he arrives home.
Any ideas how I can diffuse such a horrible situation?

I was thinking more along the lines of the type that make you feel no pain LOL

I did have a friend from college that made the best GREEN apple muffins though. Homecoming 1999 was kind of special.

(112,441 posts)I suspect that they won't get in since they probably won't show up until about noon. My brother will at least get a free meal out of it.

And since there's no telling my brother anything - he has a Masters in political science from Texas, of all places - I don't even try. But I do have one advantage over you, my brother's an agoraphobic so he's unlikely to go to any rallies these days, has to get his politics from the TV.
I'd stick close ti DU and think how satisfying it'll feel when Beto O'Rourke cleans Cruz's clock at the polls - and then you won't have to say a word. It is just a matter of time with Trump, too.

(112,441 posts)I might go ahead and get it done. That way when I get taunted from my brother, sister or brother-in-law I can tell them what I did today while they were wasting time at a pep rally.

(112,441 posts)My brother mostly votes in presidential elections although he has been more active the past 10 years. He used to be apolitical and uninformed. Now he is mostly uninformed. I didn't tell him when there was special congressional election in this district back in June so he missed voting.

(206,051 posts)Do they know about early voting? If you let on that you already voted then they might just assume that they missed it!

(112,441 posts)My BIL and sister may be informed incorrectly most of the time, but they are informed and will see reports on the TV. My brother watches the weather or Fox News on his laptop so he doesn't get as much local news.

(206,051 posts)If he knows you already voted, he just may miss it! And my brother watches The Weather Channel all the time, too! What is it about that? My mother had no idea that 9/11 had happened until she went to pick up her friend since she sat there with my brother watching weather!
No such luck that my brother will miss voting though. No early voting here in New York and that's one of the few reasons he'll leave the house.
