UNT alum donates $30 million to help students see 'possibilities of what they can achieve'

DENTON -- G. Brint Ryan admits he started college in 1982 a little bit "wild," with plans to study English.

Thanks to patient — but strict — professors at what was then North Texas State University, Ryan was challenged and inspired to explore business classes and his own creativity. He went on to earn a combined bachelor's and master's degree from the university and build a global tax firm that carries his name.

"Frankly, I was more suited for the ranches of West Texas than the halls of academia," Ryan said. "I had no idea where I was going and no idea how to get there. I came here with a lot of growing up to do, and it happened right here on this campus."

On Monday, officials at the University of North Texas announced that Ryan and his wife, Amanda, were donating $30 million for the university's business school to create endowed chairs, support academic programming, offer scholarships and more. It is the largest gift in UNT's history.
