Lubbock Christian University community celebrates Lady Chaps second national title
The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps were greeted with a standing ovation from fans and LCU alumni Tuesday night at pep rally to celebrate their second national championship.
The LCU womens basketball team celebrated with their large fan base at the Rip Griffin Center, where posters and championship shirts were available. The team won the NCAA Division II championship Friday against Southwestern Oklahoma in double overtime.
Even if we hadnt won, we would still be proud of this team, said Paul Hise, director of athletics at LCU. The way these ladies represent LCU and the community, in the classroom and on the court, is just amazing and its always fun to see the good guys win.
The team was also given a big honor from the Lubbock City Council as they formally recognized April 2 as LCU Lady Chaparral Day. Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish, who is also an LCU alum, congratulated the team on their amazing run.
