Longroad Energy to build wind farm in Knox County

Renewable energy developer Longroad Energy announced Tuesday the financial close and start of construction of its new El Campo wind farm in Knox County.

According to a news release, the project will cost approximately $335 million and is scheduled to begin commercial operation in July 2020. A total of 243 megawatts of electrical capacity will be provided by 67 wind turbines, each between 2.0 and 4.2 megawatts.

Two Danish pension fund companies are partnering with U.S.-based Longroad Energy in the project, the release stated.

Approximately 200 people are expected to be employed during construction, with a full-time staff of eight conducting day-to-day operations after completion. The project will contribute close to $20 million in property taxes to local authorities, the release stated.
