Bell touts experience in race to face Cornyn

Former U.S. Congressman and Texas gubernatorial candidate Chris Bell can pretty much pinpoint when he decided it was time for him re-enter the election world.

Bell is among at least 10 challengers who hope to face off with incumbent John Cornyn for a seat in the U.S. Senate next year, and he hopes his stints in Congress, the Houston City Council and a failed bid for Texas governor will vault him above the other Democrats with their eyes on that prize.

It isn’t just his experience propelling him into the fight, though, and Bell said Cornyn can thank the GOP for that.

“Donald Trump has been very motivational for the Democratic Party. A lot of people have gotten off the sidelines and gotten involved,” he said. “I often joke that Donald Trump has done for us what we could’ve never done for ourselves in terms of mobilizing the Democratic Party.”
