El Pasoans sound off on planned reopening of Walmart, where mass shooting took place

Many El Pasoans had a strong response to the news that the Walmart, where the Aug. 3 shooting took place, will be reopened.

Officials with the store said in response to what they heard from Walmart employees and community leaders, they will reopen the store in a few months.

Many people on social media were upset, saying a memorial should be on the lot rather than a store. Suggestions included creating a park or green space with a memorial, a botanical garden with water fountain or a chapel.

On Facebook, Rosie Alvidrez said she would like to see a water fountain with rainbow lights at the entrance of the Walmart, while Crystal Lopez stated she would rather see a nice memorial with a Walmart being built somewhere else.
