Perhaps better than anyone, political commentator and journalist Molly Ivins could describe the absurdity of Texas and its politics with unabashed candor.
There are two kinds of humor, she said in a 1991 People magazine story. One kind that makes us chuckle about our foibles and our shared humanity
the other kind holds people up to public contempt and ridiculethats what I do.
Ivins, who grew up in a conservative household in Houston, is best known for her work in the Texas Observer and as a columnist at the Dallas Times Herald and Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The response to her column, which was eventually syndicated in hundreds of newspapers nationwide, prompted a billboard ad that read, Molly Ivins Cant Say That, Can She?
Ivins died in 2007 after a battle with breast cancer. Now a new documentary is introducing Ivins to a whole new generation. Raise Hell: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins, which premiered at Januarys Sundance Film Festival and played South by Southwest in March, is getting a theatrical release beginning August 30. We spoke to the films director, Janice Engel, about Ivinss fierce spirit and the lessons todays young people can take from her legacy about taking political action.

2. If you're asking how he ended up in that wheelchair, a tree fell on him when he was out running, several years ago. Estimates of what he collected from the resulting liability action are in the $8-to-10 million range.
Let me know if the foregoing doesn't answer your question adequately.

Thanks for answering what happened to him. The Insurance company paid that much and he still milks the tax payers by gutting laws.

(28,202 posts)But as I said on another thread recently: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is infinitely worse. He's a fundamentalist religious fanatic and a Limbaugh wannabe. I used to catch him on that AM Hate Radio station he owned in Houston, years ago---scary guy.

Then his first vote back was to take insurance away from millions, posed laughing with Trump in front of the White House, then had a beer party.
And they wonder why they lost the House! Pure evil.
Sorry for the rant but they make me so angry. Nothing seems to bother them. Miniature Trump wantabes.

Nearly half of the country JUST. DOESN'T. CARE. They are a cult - they are brainwashed - or they are apathetic and disconnected.
It is far past the time for words. We need to ensure that politicians are elected that will actually DO something.
And we the people have to get up off of our asses and off the phones and computers and RESIST and ASSEMBLE.
