Work set to start on 66-story tower that will be Austin's tallest
Crews are preparing to start razing a four-story Extended Stay America hotel in downtown Austin to make way for a 66-story skyscraper that is destined to become the citys tallest building.
San Antonio-based Kairoi Residential (formerly Lynd Development) and Lincoln Property Co. are the developers of the mixed-use high-rise, which is planned to rise 845 feet at West Sixth and Guadalupe streets. That height would surpass Austins current tallest building, the newly opened Independent, a 58-story condominium tower that stands 685 feet tall at 301 West Ave.
Designed by the Austin office of global architecture firm Gensler, the 66-story tower named 6 X Guadalupe will have more than 300 luxury apartments and more than half a million square feet of office space, plus retail space.
Work is due to start on the project once the 101-room hotel is demolished, which could take a month or two.
