DENTON -- Just four weeks after the grand opening of Texas Womans Universitys new housing complex for sophomores, some residents are making plans to move out.
Students said doubts about remaining in Parliament Village have mounted over their first month in the complex, chief among them minor flooding during the first week of classes.
The first floor of all three residence halls in Parliament North Hall, South Hall and Marys Hall flooded during a heavy rain Aug. 30. Water pooled in hallways and stairwells near exit doors, overflowing into a staff apartment being used by contractors and an occupied student dorm room in North Hall.
Water got in this pump room enough to cover the floor, and it was there for two hours before we found out that what happened is theres an apartment right next to it, and it leaked under the wall into that apartment, said Don Strickland, director of construction services.

(7,947 posts)Who knew that Texas would end up being such a target of climate change. I can't believe that Houston was hit again with such a storm, and Denton now too. Buildings are going to have to be retrofitted to deal with these biannual floods.

(59 posts)I was hitch hiking right in front of TWU on I-35 and some cop had been stabbed on the freeway less than a half hour before I arrived. Needless to say the police had me open my backpack, sleeping bag and everything else to look for the "weapon" no fewer than 6 times before the "perp" was apprehended.. Gee, that was a fun night..
