Protesters rally at El Paso County Courthouse against restrictions to curb spread of COVID-19

Protesters raised signs that read "reopen all businesses" and "we are all essentials" along with U.S. and pro-Donald Trump flags Saturday in front of the El Paso County Courthouse, congregating much less than six feet apart from each other.

Around 100 people gathered, demanding the reopening of businesses closed through the coronavirus stay-at-home order. While some wore face masks, other protesters greeted acquaintances with hugs.

"Poverty kills more people than a virus," shouted organizer, Sammy Carrejo, through a megaphone to what protesters replied with "Open Texas!" chants.

“Safely Open Texas Now!” was intended to be peaceful and respectful rally to urge local and state elected officials to not wait one or two more months to reopen non-essential business activities.
