An almost grand opening: Buddy Holly Hall is open, just not in the grand way everyone expected

LUBBOCK -- Tim Collins looked around the main lobby of the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences on Thursday and said he cannot wait for everyone to see the inside.

Lots of people worked on the project for nearly a decade, a project they believe will significantly improve Lubbock, and when it's about done, it will have a quiet opening.

"We will have a grand opening event that'll knock your socks off," Collins said. "But that kind of big grand opening, we're just not there yet. Sure we're a little bit frustrated, but that target date has moved on us several times because of COVID."

Collins was excited by just the small amount of foot traffic in the building on Thursday. United Food & Beverage Services was hosting its second job fair for service positions at Rave On, the restaurant that'll be inside Buddy Holly Hall. Collins says the restaurant will open in early February.

The theater is impressive.

By the way, has Dr. Donald May shown his face around anywhere? I used to post some of his columns from the LAJ during the Obama years just because they were so absurd. Proof that Republicans have lied to us for years. Lubbock was fortunate that they dodged a bullet and didn't elect him to Congress. I'm almost certain that Dr. May would have assisted the "patriots" that knocked on the door and requested to come into Congress.

We still have replacements equally absurd. Believe me. Just last summer, our West Texas Rush Limbaugh, Robert Pratt, openly advocated physical violence just so he can practice his religious convictions! (on air) He blocked me a long time ago, so I've been unable to vent to him. And don't get me started on Charles Perry!
