Amarillo College receives $15 million gift from author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott
Within the past month, there have been two times where Amarillo College President Russell Lowery-Hart has stated that a particular day has been the best day in the history of the college.
That first day came May 18 when Amarillo College was named a "Rising Star" by the Aspen Institute, as part of the top five community colleges in the United States.
The second day came just four weeks later, when the college received a $15 million gift from author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, the largest gift in the history of the college.
This gift to Amarillo College was part of Scott's $2,739,000,000 gift to 286 "high-impact organizations in categories and communities that have been historically underfunded and overlooked," according to a blog post from Scott. This is Scotts third round of multi-billion-dollar philanthropic donations to various nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and racial equity colleges.
