Related: About this forumUnruly Passenger Kicked Off American Airlines Flight, Should Consider Flying Spirit
Here are a few things that can be true at the same time:
Many people are on their worst behavior while traveling by air, and its only gotten worse during the COVID-19 pandemic: The FAA has this year logged more than 3,000 cases of disruptive passengers, the majority of them throwing hissy fits because they have to wear a mask. We should all chill out a little bit.
Viral videos of people melting down or acting up or otherwise embarrassing themselves are free of context, and we should for many other reasons be uncomfortable with our culture of public shaming, which is exacerbated by the attention economics of social media and by the digital content churn we see in blog posts like this one. We should try to have a little more empathy, even for people who appear to be acting like real jerks.
The American Airlines agent seen in the viral video below is handling an ugly situation at DFW Airport remarkably well, and You can find another carrier to fly; Id suggest Spirit is a great line. We should applaud this mans cool.
The Dallas Morning News has a few more details on what happened. A dispute over mask-wearing led a passenger to insult a flight attendant. The passenger was kicked off the flight, and somebody filmed this:

(8,445 posts)I think this issue of people acting like idiots when flying would be greatly lessened if ALL airport/airline personnel would adopt a "No Tolerance" stance. It irks me to see them arguing with the idiots. EVERYONE knows the rules at this point. If someone chooses not to follow the rules, they should be banished. The most generous act on the part of the airport/airline personnel should be to hand the idiot a map directing them how to get to the nearest bus terminal.

(57,099 posts)1. It is not "everybody" that is causing trouble. It's a small part of the anti maskers.
2. That customer service guy should teach a master class on customer service. The way he handled her, even in his body language, showed he was listening to her even as he was not going to "negotiate" an alternative over why she got bumped or that she was being restricted from flying his airline and exactly why in a few words with no triggering phrases or threats. His body language was perfect.

(10,011 posts)And especially on airplanes. I may have empathy for people who have some mental issues, especially when flying, but they shouldnt be on an airplane if they cant stand being cooped up and decide to open the door in flight. It is federal law to wear masks in airports and on planes. If you wont obey the law, then you need to be kicked off the plane and never be allowed to fly on any domestic airline again. Harsh, but these people who attack airline personnel need to understand that their actions have consequences.

(28,798 posts)i recently went on my first pandemic trip, a total of 4 flights on SW. Prior to the flight the attendants reminded everyone on the flight quite forcefully that masks were to be worn correctly for the duration of the flight. On one of the flights, 2 people in the front row were not compliant. They masked up when she hit them up about it fortunately.
This is reassuring to me. At least in the air I can feel somewhat safe from the covidiots. Our entire culture just seems to have turned mean in the wake of trump. Mean and stupid.

(50,955 posts)need to shout their right wing nut jobbiness from the rooftops.
Left wing people are seldom shamed in these viral videos. Because left wing people are capable of holding a political belief or ideal without trying to forcibly impose it on other people. Right wing people are not, apparently, capable of doing that.
Democrats tend not to be the ones getting into other people's faces. So there is little chance for Democrats to counter these loud, aggressive, public, sometimes violent, sometimes dangerous right wing displays. These viral videos are one way of counteracting the messages of these over the top right wing nut jobs.
So I'm not against viral videos that show right wing nut jobs being right wing nut jobs. If they do not wish to be shamed, they are totally free to just pipe the hell down.

(111,270 posts)she might have realized that a well timed apology would get her to her destination on time.
That's the problem with people like this, they will. not. shut. up.
I don't think any airline will tolerate that behavior. Too much is at stake.

(8,054 posts)They're just trying to get their way, or have their tantrum--they don't give a fuck how it looks to everyone else. In fact, many are attention seekers (the mask holes especially who love to parade around until someone tries to stop them).
