Texas A&M boosts local economy: Officials cite move to SEC for $540M increase

According to an in-house study, the Texas A&M University System generated an estimated $4.3 billion for the Bryan-College Station community in 2012 -- a $540 million increase over 2011 and a $2.2 billion increase since 2002.

University and city officials agree that much of the increase in the contribution to the local economy is linked to Texas A&M's move to the Southeastern Conference.

According to a statement released by the university, attendance at athletic events increased by about 98,000, and visitors to the Bryan-College Station area stayed longer and spent more money in 2012 than in past years.

The study, conducted in the fall by Oxford Economics, found that moving home football games out of the Brazos Valley would have a $120 million impact on the community, with tax receipts of $5.8 million.

where do you find good barbeque in B-CS?

My brother likes Chef Cao for Asian food, but it keeps getting closed down by the health department.

Very good food and prices, and if you don't smell like meat smoke when you leave, you got in a hurry!

A real joint.
