Cook Children's in Fort Worth: 'We are hitting a crisis mode' with COVID-19

Cook Children’s Health Care System is struggling to treat patients as unprecedented demand related to COVID-19 is severely straining the health care system, doctors said at a news conference Wednesday.

In the emotionally charged conference, physicians pleaded with the community to wear masks, avoid large gatherings and get vaccinated.

“Delta changed everything. Delta loves kids,” said Dr. Corwin Warmink, emergency services medical director. “The storyline that this doesn’t affect children just isn’t true anymore.”

This week, the health care system temporarily closed an urgent care facility in Hurst to consolidate staff. Cook Children’s also opened a third COVID-19 unit. Within 24 hours, that nine-bed unit was full.
