Central Texas runs out of ICU beds for first time since pandemic began

AUSTIN — Central Texas had no available intensive care unit beds on Sunday. It was the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began that the 11-county area surrounding Austin ran out of staffed adult ICU beds.

On Sunday, the area had four pediatric staffed ICU beds available, but on Saturday, the region did not have any open staffed pediatric ICU beds.

Saturday was not the first time the region ran out of pediatric ICU beds. For three days in August and one day in July 2020 the Texas Department of Health and Human Services also reported zero pediatric ICU beds available in the Austin region.

At the start of the pandemic, the region had as many as 184 available adult ICU beds and 29 available pediatric ICU beds.

But, last summer we had 13,000 available and it was going to be ample. Thanks, Gov. Greg! czarjak Sep 2021 #4

COVID patients lying out on the streets near hospitals with no room for them, relatives desperately hunting around for oxygen bottles at any price.

It need not have turned out like this.

I mean, isn't Texas part of the wealthiest, most technologically advanced country on the planet? Not some third world country?

Are killing their own people, and mostly those that voted for them. Shows how easily some people can be conned into believing anything but the truth from corrupt politicians. Death caused by politician a reality in Texas. Enabling the virus to morph into worse variants from their policies and are only making things worse, and promoting bogus treatment medications, and anti mask and anti-vaccinations make more covid variant waves likely. As long as these people who voted for this don't realize they are the cause, it will get worse, and last a lot longer, and vaccines will become less effective.
