Most Texans Don't Want Abbott Re-Elected

This makes me smile https://politicalwire.com/2021/09/28/most-texans-dont-want-abbott-re-elected/

A new Quinnipiac poll in Texas finds that 51% of voters don’t think Gov. Greg Abbott (R) deserves to be reelected.

However, 50% of voters do not think Beto O’Rourke (D) would make a good governor and 49% do not think Matthew McConaughey would make a good governor.

Sounds like even though they dislike him, they dislike him the least.

The main problem I have with a Beto candidacy is that he lost a statewide election against an unlovable opponent when he had relatively vast out-of-state resources and momentum behind him.

Abbott isn't hated nearly as much as Cruz was and this isn't going to be seen as virtually a national race.

And with the race being more local, issues like whether Beto as a city councilman did favors for his father-in-law will get more scrutiny. Beto's father-in-law is a multi-millionaire as a real estate developer.

The family having money likely helpful when it comes to people/banks being willing to loan the campaign money.

Likely not helpful in painting Beto as a man of the people. And particularly if he did more than abstain from city council votes when the city was threatening to seize poor people's homes through eminent domain and let Beto's father-in-law develop the land. https://www.forbes.com/sites/christopherhelman/2018/11/04/is-beto-orourkes-wife-really-a-billionaire-heiress-not-likely/

And of course the other question: if it isn't Beto as the Democrat nominee, who would be a better choice?

Beto is a man of the people — he actually shows up and helps. What you see is what you get — the way he speaks on camera is how he is in person. I’m virtually a nobody, and yet, he had time to chat with me. I’ve seen him walk, march, and sweat alongside everyone else insisting on voting rights.

He did abstain from votes over that project — what else do you want? The exchange for REIT shares in the new development or condemning for market value idea ultimately did not pass.

Abbott is approaching Cruz level disgust. Has lost favor in my family. One chose to let a pet industry freeze people for profits and Ted fled. Caused so much haranguing crap for small business owners, etc… aside from all the death.

Beto’s only major problem is the gun question in the debate. That’s it, that’s what he needs to overcome, and is tricky as so many have been trained to confuse their peace with their piece.
