At Republican rally, South Texas billed as key to election outcomes

The voting strength of South Texas will be key to election outcomes next year, according to several Republican leaders.

That will mean there needs to be a high priority placed on engaging Hispanic voters – many of whom share ideals that align with the party’s, said several speakers at a rally Sunday night organized by the Nueces County Republican Party.

Prep work for the 2022 elections is already underway, said Jamie McWright, president of the nonprofit Associated Republicans of Texas, on Sunday.

Nueces County will play an important role, she added.

“We believe that the battleground is right here,” McWright said. “It starts in San Antonio and it moves south all the way down to the Rio Grande Valley.”
