Thomas J. Henry firm wins Army veteran $22.5 million in 3M earplugs lawsuit

Attorneys with Thomas J. Henry's San Antonio-based law firm won a Florida Army veteran a multimillion-dollar settlement against 3M Co. In November, courts awarded in U.S. Army Veteran Theodore Finley $7.5 million in compensatory damages and $13 million for a total of $22.5 million, according to a news release. The percentage going to the attorney was not disclosed.

Finley alleges in court documents that he suffered hearing loss and tinnitus despite using 3M combat earplugs marketed to the U.S. military to protect service members from combat noise.

"In this case, however, we saw 3M Co. take advantage of our U.S. servicemen and women," attorney Henry said in the news release. "That is simply unacceptable and the jury's verdict shows that the people our military members serve will not stand for it."

Finley is the sixth service member that has successfully sue 3M in a bevy of ongoing lawsuits against the manufacturer. The damages are the largest in a series of seven, including the $13 million award given to Army Sgt. Guillermo Camarillorazo last month.
