Restaurateur: Obama mural is here to stay

Marcus Davis is resolute. As many times as vandals paint over a mural of President Barack Obama, he will repair the damage over and over again.

"There is an endless supply of paint," said Davis, 41, who opened The Breakfast Klub in 2001. "This mural is symbolic of the presidency of Barack Obama. He wakes up every day to obstacles and challenges far greater than a doggone mural being defaced. If he has the level of courage and type of character that causes him to continue to go on, I'll be damned if I stop."

Just days after Davis stopped a possible vandal from defacing a mural of President Obama, the restaurateur said he's not about to let his guard down.

After all, the popular mural across the street from The Breakfast Klub at 3711 Travis has been defaced at least three times by vandals since last October, most recently in late January when someone splashed black and red paint across the 10-foot image of Obama. Artists redesigned and repainted the mural in late January, adding the image of a young, blue-eyed white girl next to the nation's first black president.

1. They should invest in a subtly placed video surveillance system.

And place a few dummy cameras (for the vandals to deface) closer in. A lighting system that springs to life in a Stalag-17-like glare if anyone gets too close to the wall, too!

Then bring them to court, and shame them. Make them pay, sully their reputations, and require they do community service as well.

What jerks!

Fucking haters. I call hate crime.

"The first time it happened, I was very disturbed," he said. "What went on through my mind was this is the world in which I have to raise my seven-year-old son, an African-American male. Nothing will fix this problem outside of us deliberately changing how we think, how we act and how we interact with one another as brothers and sisters of one blood, as one nation."

Go Marcus!!!

Breakfast Klub owner stops latest vandal attempt

Twice since October, a mural of President Obama has been defaced outside Houston's The Breakfast Klub.

But Sunday evening, the latest attempt was stopped before it even started by the owner of the business Marcus Davis.

Click on the video above to hear Marcus Davis first hand account to FOX 26's Andrea Watkins.

Maybe someone else can see it. I haven't been to that area for many years, but may make a point of visiting his restaurant when I fly down there.
