New data pokes holes in Gov. Abbott's claim Biden administration isn't stopping people at border

New numbers released this week by U.S. Customs and Border Protection contradict Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's repeated claim that the Biden administration has an open-borders policy.

Apprehensions of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border declined in June and July. However, a New York Times analysis of CBP's data reveals that the number of apprehensions for the first 10 months of the federal government's 2022 fiscal year blew past the total for all of the prior fiscal year.

By the end of June, border security officials undertook more than 1.74 million apprehensions, surpassing 2021's total of 1.73 million, according to the Times. Last year's number was the highest recorded since 1960, the paper also notes.

On the current current trajectory, officials are likely to apprehend more than 2 million border crossers by the end of the 2022 fiscal year, according to the Times' number crunching.

I'm not seeing much pushback on Fox's narrative that Biden is down at the border giving immigrants a glass of lemonade and a stack of cash when they cross the border. Last year had more apprehensions than any since 1960, and of course that includes Trump's years, and this year is going to surpass last year. So this needs to get attention while the Republicans are spreading their lies going into the midterms.

Number of apprehensions does not necessarily mean fewer people are getting in. In all likelihood it probably does in this case. However, if numbers exist - or just estimations - for people who get in (and they probably do), if they were bad for Biden, republicans would be using them instead of trying to make number of apprehensions look bad.

... I live in California. We have a border problem... the TEXAS border! Maybe Biden can have Harris organize a committee to help Gov. Abbott... suggestions to help him deal with the crisis. Obviously, Abbott's having problems. We can call the committee ABBOTT's BORDER CRISIS COMMITTEE. Maybe we can get Beto to offer suggestions...

How can we have open borders with that great big complete 30 foot high wall that Trump built in Mexico paid for? Not there of course. But he’s campaigning for a chance to fail again
