Until people start calling this out, it'll only be a problem for the people hurt by their racism and their racist policies. And so far, a lot of Texas voters (and voters in lots of other states) are happy to vote for candidates actively courting white supremacists, nazis, and run of the mill bigots.

I'm a Texas Democrat. Much of this problem seems to be related to religion. Many Republicans here are very religious. So we need to start properly educating people about the origins of their religion. It would be wise to make books about this required reading in public schools. The books of D.M. Murdock would be a good start. When people stop seeing the world through the prism of religion racism will be greatly decreased. Everyone needs to realize that we're all part of the same human family. This could also reduce the popularity of the Republican party in states like Texas.
