Register to vote by Feb. 2 for upcoming primary election
With the primary election quickly approaching, citizens are reminded to ensure they are registered to vote by the Feb. 2 deadline. The primary election for the Democratic and Republican parties is scheduled for March 3, and early voting will take place Feb. 17-27.
Voters can confirm their registration status through the Texas Secretary of States Am I Registered? portal at VoteTexas.gov, a user-friendly resource for quickly checking eligibility.
For those who have not yet registered, time is running out. To complete your registration, you can fill out an online application on the VoteTexas.gov website. After filling it out, print, sign and mail the application to your county election office. Printed applications also can be requested from the county election office and will be mailed to your address. For those who prefer in-person assistance, visit the county election office where staff can help you complete your application.
To qualify for voting, applicants must meet specific criteria: you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on Election Day, a resident of the county and not a convicted felon or declared mentally incapacitated. Once your application is submitted and accepted, it typically takes about a week for processing. Eligible voters will receive their voter card by mail.
