Uh, I mean the Texas hate-threads
In talking to myself this evening while I shopped (hey, that's no worse than the millions that talk to their bluetooth devices in the same way!) I came to the conclusion that we're The Enemy.
The Enemy for republicans (besides us Liberals) is anything to do with Muslims. Just like them, Liberals on DU appear to need a constant enemy (besides republicans), and we're it.
We can attempt to educate them on why their hate is misguided, but it truly does not do any good. Oh, there are the handful that thank us for speaking up, or are willing to admit they were wrong, but the haters outnumber them, going on and on about all the same stereotypes and misinformed opinions. No change.
One of these days I'll learn to stop taking their bait.
So, other than all that, how are y'all doin' tonight?

(29,414 posts)Now let's just apply this technique to republicans across the country. Because I'd love to see them all walkin' out the door!

(11,619 posts)of the type who say a man who shoots his escort because she didn't put out is innocent, it is gong to be criticized for its decisions. That isn't hate.
I look forward to the possibility that the stat will turn a nice hispanic blue, but I won't hold my breath.

(28,264 posts)I have no problem with DU'ers criticizing particular individuals or specific acts or the damaging effects of right wing politics in my state. But I'm a life-long Texas Democrat, and whenever the entire state is written off as some sort of Third World country by people whose comments are as snot-nosed as they are uninformed, I reserve the right to be pissed, and I reserve the right to express my unhappiness. True enough, it generally doesn't do any good---but there are times when it does. Which makes it worthwhile, as far as I'm concerned.

(11,619 posts)As a citizen you carry the responsibility with every other citizen for what your government does in your name. A legitimate defense is that you didn't vote for SOB's and will never vote for them, and work to put better people in office, but you are still responsible.
As a Californian, I am partially responsible for what Issa does. I didn't vote for him, I don't support him, but I still hold some responsibility for that idiot is doing.

(28,264 posts)Take your fair share of blame for Reagan and Charles Manson, and I might start paying attention to your goofy-assed notion of guilt-tripping according to state boundary lines.....

(11,619 posts)He was a megalomaniac and a mass murderer who was not elected to do what he did.
It isn't goofy. Each citizen is responsible for what his government does. It is written into our Constitution.

(28,264 posts)From there on your lofty perch in San Diego, have you issued any condemnations against everybody in Kentucky for Mitch McConnell? Have you attempted any guilt-trip efforts against the whole of Minnesota, for Michelle Bachmann? I doubt that you have---and yet as sad and unjust as that Bexar Co. TX jury verdict was, the ill effects inflicted by McConnell and Bachmann on this country are a thousand times worse, effects which will impact our grandchildren decades from now.
Peddle your bullshit elsewhere, OK? Trust me: there are plenty of DU'ers ready and more than willing to take up the slack as far as Texas Hatred goes......

(11,619 posts)a government of the people, for the people, and by the people because we are the people.
Those who look at their elected government and say, "It's not my fault because I didn't vote for that asshat." just want to run away from their responsibilities as citizens. I don't care what state people are from. If the government of the state of Texas, California, Minnesota, or Confusion screws up, each citizen bears some of the responsibility for that screw up. We have a representative Democratic Republic. They are our representatives, which means we are the leaders and we are responsible.
If I wanted to trash Texas, I bitch about their Barbeque or their Salsa.

(3,691 posts)I expect broad-brushing from Reps, but I was disappointed to see some Dems doing it.
Our Texas group is fierce though! Watch out!

(29,414 posts)is Dems enabling Reps to break up the Union. What?!
I do wish we could Cc in PM here so I wouldn't have to make threads like this. I do feel like I'm complaining too much sometimes.
I am glad we're all here

(25,383 posts)I don't blame the state of Texas. Maybe the prosecutors didn't do their job. Maybe the defendant was super-rich and had a dream team. Maybe they had a goofy jury.
I worked at the county hospital maternity ward and we were taught to treat everyone like equals. We got the prisoners and prostitutes etc.
I don't know what went wrong with that case.
I'm sure there have been cases of murdered prostitutes in Texas that have resulted in convictions. They are an extremely vulnerable group.
Don't worry. Texas is only public enemy number 2 on DU - right behind Prez Obama
ETA: BTW I think you do a good job articulating Texas facts in GD.
