Police sergeant suspended after loss of cocaine
An Austin police sergeant will be suspended for a day after officials say he contributed to the loss of two bags of seized cocaine.
Sgt. Oscar Ramirezs suspension starts Friday, according to a memo from Police Chief Art Acevedo.
On March 8, Ramirez, who was the supervisor during a search warrant execution, directed an officer to seize and maintain the narcotics found at a home. The officer put the narcotics on the kitchen counter, but at the end of the search, he ordered organized crime division personnel to gather and remove the evidence from the scene.

Ramirez can choose to use paid time off to serve his suspension or appeal it, according to the memo.

In this instance it would seems reasonable to request that all of the officers involved with the execution of the search warrant to provide urine, blood, and/or hair samples so that they can prove their innocence and improve the public's perception of the police department.
