Woman claims large “burly” Arlington police officer punched and body slammed her during arrest

A woman has sued an Arlington police officer, claiming he body slammed her and punched her during an arrest.

Vanessa Aguilar sued Officer Joel Rangel in her lawsuit filed on Thursday in federal court, alleging excessive force. She also is suing a second officer, identified as Jane Doe.

The incident occurred, she claims, after the officers were called to her parents’ Arlington home in November 2012. Aguilar says in the suit that she visited the home after drinking with friends and that her father didn’t want her to leave with her 2-year-old son so he called the police.

The officers placed her under arrest for an unrelated matter and Aguilar was cooperative, the lawsuit says.
