AUSTIN Compared to previous legislative sessions Gov. Rick Perry didnt veto many bills this year.
Two of the 26 measures he rejected were authored by Sen. Kel Seliger, and the Amarillo Republican was not happy.
The governor also axed a House bill Seliger sponsored in the Texas Senate.
I am very disappointed by Gov. Perrys decision to veto SB 15, Seliger said in reference to the measure that would have required Senate approval of members of board of regents at public state universities and would prevent regents from firing school presidents.
Seliger, chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee, filed SB 15 when there were reports some University of Texas regents were working behind the scenes to oust Bill Powers, president of the Austin campus.

SB 346, known as the dark money disclosure bill, would have cracked down on secret political contributions made by groups trying to avoid finance and disclosure laws on grounds they have nonprofit status.
Seliger characterized the veto of SB 346 as a sad day for integrity and transparency in Texas, but Perry saw the legislative proposal as a threat to freedom of association and freedom of speech.
