Let this kill the Texas bashing!

For the people on DU who have repeatedly bashed Texas--we won! It may only be on one vote in one battle and we'll most likely have to engage in other battles in the war for our freedom and our liberties, but we showed that we have the cajones (for the men) and the sheer determination (for the women) to stand up as progressive activists.

While my role was limited to public advocacy to fight against SB 5, I am a proud middle-aged, white Texan male that realizes that when the rights and liberties of even a single individual can be violated, then the rights and liberties of all people are at risk.

Kudos to the citizens and the legislators in Texas that stopped this horrible bill from becoming a law.

To the rest of the nation who sent messages of support; please, we need your help to continue winning victories like the one we won tonight. Whether you can contribute your time, your money, sign petitions or be a public advocate--these are battles that we cannot afford to lose. Thank you for your support and I'll remind everyone that we are the United States of America--so let's unite and keep up the good fight.

But it would be hard to stop ridiculing some of the elected officials there - but feel free to insult NJ politicians, I certainly do.

particularly our Republicans. At times we have some independents and even an occasional Democrat that also deserve ridicule, but keep in mind that there are a good Texans also.

While we may be out-numbered, there are plenty of us that work and support the best interest of our fellow Texans and our fellow Americans. I'm not claiming that we are perfect, like everywhere else there are good people and bad people. For one night and not to minimalize that abortion is a medical procedure with risks and trauma, the people won an important battle that would have seriously undermine the right for Texas women to control their reproductive health.

Here's the thing--- the majority of Floridians voted for the douchebags that fill our state legislature branches...

So---- they are at fault more than anyone---and they are citizens of my state---so I'm going to bash them whole heartily.

But when DU threads trash an entire state---and every man, woman, child and liberal voter living there---that's a problem. And that kind of shit happens way too often on DU, as to Texas. I don't expect this heroic filibuster to stop such things, but maybe it will slow it down a little. As a Texan and a Democrat, I've learned to cherish limited victories.

I have had to deal with the braggadocio of the people from Texas who ended up being stationed with me in the service. And I lived in Texas as a child; I remember fire ants bite and morning glories.

Texas was very blessed to have elected Sen. Wendy Davis.

Molly said that when she got involved with civil rights Texas pretty much was on the lame end of the movement: No important activists visited, they didn't know any of the songs and it was too darn hot.

In other words, Texas doesn't have much of a history in the activism dept. So what Wendy Davis did was pretty darn awesome.

I know this is a bit off topic, but Wendy's filibuster did make me think of Molly and it got me thinking about previous protests in Texas and I pretty much drew a blank.

We have every reason to be proud!!
