"MONTPELIER — A Senate committee has voted 5-0 for a bill that would allow doctors to prescribe a lethal dose of medication to terminally ill patients who request it, though the bill’s future is far from certain.

“I’m very pleased with the results,” Senate Health & Welfare Committee Chairwoman Claire Ayer, D-Addison, said after Friday’s vote.

Mary Hahn Beerworth, executive director of Vermont Right to Life, who opposes the bill, said the committee went into the issue supporting the bill and was unswayed by testimony from those opposed..."
