WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — Authorities say an athlete from a Tennessee university was killed when he and two other members of his team were struck by a car while running along a road in Virginia. Virginia State Police say members of the Milligan University men’s cross-country and track and field team were running in Williamsburg on Thursday evening when three were hit. Five were taken to a hospital, where police say Eli Cramer died. The university says Alex Mortimer and Eli Baldy were injured. Police say the driver, Jose Efrain Hernandez Mancia, is charged with DUI and several other offenses. The Milligan team was set to compete at a meet hosted by William & Mary this weekend.

Driver Charged With DUI Following Williamsburg Hit & Run That Killed College Runner, Seriously Injured Others

By Molly Feser April 1, 2022

WILLIAMSBURG — A college runner was killed and four others were seriously injured after being hit by a drunk driver on Thursday, March 31.

According to the Virginia State Police (VSP), five members of the Milligan University men’s cross country/track and field team were running along Williamsburg Pottery Road near the Lightfoot Road intersection at approximately 6:02 p.m. when they were struck by a red Toyota Scion.

All five members were transported to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, where 20-year-old Eli Cramer of Murfreesboro, Tenn. succumbed to his injuries.

Cramer was a student at Milligan University and was in Williamsburg to attend a track meet, VSP stated.

The road they were on is a narrow lane with no lines that cuts from 199 past a campground to the back of the shops that replaced the Williamsburg Pottery.
