Charlottesville - the 14th street bridge ate another truck - Updated

Ms. Bixby is a reporter for the local paper.

I believe that is the fifth truck in 2022.

A video showing the extent of the damage and it seems to show that the truck had been backed out some in the above photo.

2. One of the problems with that bridge for trucks

is there are points of no return LOOONNNNNGGGGG before one gets to the bridge. Coming from the west there is no place to turn or turn around for four or five city blocks. Same coming from the north. Coming from the east unless you make the left at the to JPA at the light there is no where to go. There is no south it's a 'T' intersection

That intersection is very busy and very crowded. No way even a 14 foot box truck could turn around unless traffic is stopped and the parking places on the sides of the road are cleared.

The city of Charlottesville needs to do much more than set up an alarm system 50' from the bridge. That's way too late.

3. I have a different experience.

Tractor trailers regularly deliver to The Corner side of that bridge. They back up west into hospital drive and then turn back west on University Ave every day.

Box trucks approaching from the east can easily make a right turn on 14th Street. I have done that many times as well as a u-turn on the west side. Tractor trailers have to be careful and car drivers need to cooperate, but I've seem them make it.
