turnout was fairly heavy, with a steady stream of people in the firehouse where I vote. Unfortunately, I'm in a very Republican area, so I don't think Warner/Patrick will get the majority of votes in this area. My hubby and I were two democratic votes at least.

Then off to work. As I got off the 16X Metrobus at Archives, I asked the driver, "are you registered to vote?"

He replied, "nah."

ETA: I didn't get to work until about 9:30. Some local school systems have the day off, and there were already lots of kids on the Mall. This is probably not the day for me to go to the Archives. Also, it's going to hit 70 degrees today, so there's a double-whammy.

The Metrobus is not the fast way to get to work, but on the way, I get to see the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the White House (if you look carefully, and there are no leaves on the trees), and the Capitol. The leaves on the cherry trees surrounding the Tidal Basin are changing. It's not the spectacle of spring, but I wouldn't mind strolling around a bit if I get the chance.

She seemed to think I was joking. Then, I mentioned that the Governor's race was very close and her face changed from laughter to grim in a second She seemed downright stunned.

We political posters tend to assume everyone knows what we know. Very bad assumption

WE don't live that far apart it seems!

One of my fave things is to take the Yellow line and get in the front car -- especially during Spring and Snow.

Lots of smiles, everybody is laid back and the poll workers are helpful. My wife and I go early, at 7:00 AM, before we go to work. took about 5 minutes.

This is not necessarily a good thing, since it's a red part of the state, but we DO have Warner/Gaughan signs here and there, so I'm hopeful.

Don Beyer is expected to replace Jim Moran, pretty easily. But, you never know...I'm stunned that Warner is not winning handily.

This is looking a lot like the last election -- Fairfax county will need to be really counted.

It appears that several urban areas (purple to blue) besides FFX will be counted late.

Arlington (very blue) has reported < 30% of their votes--IIRC, Arlington was late last time too;
Suffolk, Norfolk - also blue - many votes to be counted

I see that Loudoun and Prince William in NoVA (purplish) are about half reported - I don't know whether the redder (more rural) areas report first.

18. update from Blue Virginia:

Nov 2014
http://www.bluevirginia.us

UPDATE 9:33 pm: All kinds of problems with the Virginia State Board of Elections and VPAP tonight. Really need reform and an infusion of resources there, as this is just pathetic and embarrassing. If you believe VPAP, it's now Gillespie leading by under 19,000 votes with 91.40% counted. Still a decent # from Fairfax County to report. @notlarrysabato tweets, "From what I can see Warner is up about 8,000 but almost all of NoVA is now in." Also, "Recount looking more and more likely." For all of us who will never forget Webb vs. Allen election night in 2006, are you feeling a bit of deja vu??!?

looks to me as if FFX has a huge number of mostly blue votes still to count and that the other counties that have big votes uncounted are trending blue. Also, there are a small % of Arlington votes to be counted. I don't know why notlarrysabato says "almost all of NoVA is now in." It may be in, but a lot of it isn't counted yet per the Politico site.

This is a lot closer than it should be but I think Warner will pull it out.
