Okay, it's not exactly earth-shaking, but this was only the second coyote spotted in Arlington County, at least in modern times. Now, it's dead. Apparently it walked (loped?) across Memorial Bridge from Rock Creek Park in DC.
Other than the normal snow-related panic, no additional panic is required due to this incident.

The second-ever confirmed coyote in Arlington County was hit by a car on Route 110 last Friday morning.
According to Animal Welfare League of Arlington Chief Animal Control Officer Alice Burton, the coyote was struck at about 9:30 a.m. on Route 110 near Arlington National Cemetery.
The responding animal control officer who works for AWLA, the countys provider of animal control services removed the coyote from the scene and brought it back to AWLA, where it had to be euthanized, Burton said.
Arlingtons only previous confirmed sighting of a coyote was in April 2012, courtesy of a wildlife camera set up in Potomac Overlook Regional Park. Other sightings reported by residents have either been foxes or dogs mistaken for coyotes, Burton said.

(5,260 posts)But never coyotes. Despite all the buildings and highways, there are deer around there, as well as squirrels, rabbits and beavers. So they have a food source.

(41,144 posts)Same with relative in McLean on a wooded street not far from Chesterbrook Shop Ctr. & North Arl. Several years ago I saw one there in daytime, 10 am walking down a lane- tall, greyish, thought it was a really strange, worn out, thin dog. But it was a coyote or coywolf mix. There's also smaller, bushy red fox in that area. Concerned so I asked people, looked into it. Last year a cousin saw several at night in her Burke, Va. Tnhs. parking lot while walking her dog.
They go around in groups or packs sometimes esp. when food is scarce in late fall, winter.
An aggressive, hungry pack of 4-5 can take down a deer. Look online. We found much info. including videos of coyotes in action at night near parking lots, homes. They've moved from West to East over several decades & adapt well to both cities & suburbs-from Midwest backyards, to NYC Central Park & Tenn. Watch pets & food alone in yards, & small kids.

(34,825 posts)i frequently encounter them on my rides. there's a small pack that wander the trail on the slope out behind my house, upsetting all the neighborhood dogs. oddly, i rarely see any that have been hit by cars.
