Potomac Falls High grad wins $40K advocacy scholarship
By Veronike Collazo, vcollazo@loudountimes.com Jun 29, 2018 Updated Jun 29, 2018
Potomac Falls High School graduate Luc Teyssier is one of two winners for the Peter L. Page Scholarship through the University of Virginia.
Now in its third year, the Peter L. Page Scholarship is offered through UVAs network of LGBTQ alumni. It's awarded to two gay men* a year who demonstrate a commitment to bettering the LGBTQ community. ... Teyssier, who will start UVA in the fall, will receive $40,000 throughout his four years of college and was selected for his inter-sectional activism.
The Sterling teen may be most known to some Loudouners for his appearances before the Loudoun County School Board, petitioning the board to adopt employment discrimination protections for gay and transgender employees.
Though Loudoun County government includes sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes from employment discrimination, Loudoun County Public Schools does not, and last year the board voted 4-5 against adding the protections.

* That's what it says. I think they mean "individuals." A sex-based scholarship wouldn't pass muster anywhere these days.

(57,414 posts)2. The Peter L. Page Scholarship
I'm always the last to know. Here's a bunch about the scholarship:
The Peter L. Page Scholarship
In 2014, the Serpentine Society received a bequest to endow a scholarship fund from the late Dr. Peter L. Page, a 1967 graduate of the College of Arts & Sciences and a graduate of the School of Medicine who went on to have a long and distinguished career in transfusion medicine. As per the stipulations of Dr. Pages bequest, there are 2 scholarships available for highly motivated gay, male students: The Peter Page Merit Scholarship for incoming First Year students, and the Peter Page Grant for current undergraduates and graduate students at UVa.

Yeah, male-only.
