Related: About this forumVA Sen. Tommy Norment (R) was an editor for VMI yearbook filled with racist photos and slurs
A Virginia Military Institute yearbook overseen by future state Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment in 1968 features a host of racist photos and slurs, including blackface.
The revelation about one of Virginia's most powerful Republicans comes as the states Democratic governor and attorney general are facing calls to resign over their own admissions they wore blackface as young men.
Norment, R-James City County, was managing editor of The Bomb publication that year. He went to VMI in Lexington after graduating from James Blair High School in Williamsburg and has been a state senator since 1992.

Except with GOPers, this contemptible behavior can be a feature instead of a bug...

(3,148 posts)2. I'd wager more Republicans than Democratic will be
Encourage to resign when this episode is concluded.
Right now journalist are focused on only old pictures of candidates in black face.
Wait till they start posting the pics of politics dressed up in native war paint, or traditional Spanish garments. Which is just as racist.
Add in those dressed in drag to mock LGBT people. A lot of them are going to be packing up thier offices.

I'm not so confident that we will be seeing many GOP resignations.
One of the reasons the GOP is so eager to fight over this stuff, even though they are worse perpetrators of it, is that the two parties' voters hold their candidates to different standards.

Because of pressure from their constitutes.
Democratic would force them out if of our caucus resigned.
