CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - City police are charging a teenager in connection with an online threat to Charlottesville High School.

The Charlottesville Police Department announced Friday, March 22, that a 17-year-old boy was arrested at 6 a.m. The minor is charged with threats to commit serious bodily harm to persons on school property, and harassment by computer.

Police said they were notified about an online threat around 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, and the school system made the call to cancel classes Thursday, March 21. The school remained closed Friday.

Teachers and staff from Clark Elementary School hosted a lunchtime event for students and the community Friday. They gathered at IX Art Park, near the Friendship Court neighborhood, to greet students and offer snacks.

UPDATE: Charlottesville police have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with the threats and charged him with:

-Threats to commit serious bodily harm to persons on school property, a Class 6 Felony.

-Harassment by Computer, a Class 1 Misdemeanor.
