Wet snow falls in Washington region's western areas and blankets the Blue Ridge, in mid-April.

Dulles International Airport received a trace of snow, a record for the date.

'Dulles International Airport registered a trace of snow early Wednesday and up to 4 inches fell in the mountains, as an unusually cold spring weather system scooted through the Mid-Atlantic.

The trace of snow at Dulles marked a daily record for April 15. A “trace” signifies snow falling from the sky but not sticking to the ground.

In addition to the report of snow at Dulles, flakes fell as close to Washington at Thurmont, Md., in Frederick County and Bluemont, Va., in Loudoun County.

No snow was reported inside the Beltway, just a cold rain.

Real accumulation was reported in the high terrain well west of Washington, generally above about 2,000 feet in elevation.

The webcam at Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park, along the Skyline Drive, showed a healthy covering of snowfall. The snow Wednesday morning at Big Meadows was the second of the month. It was also coated on April 1.'>>>
