Coast Guard suspends search for 2 missing from boat in Lake Washington
The U.S. Coast Guard suspended Tuesday night the search for two people missing from a boat in Lake Washington.
The pair, a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were reported missing Monday night after a boat was found unoccupied in the lake, a news release from the Coast Guard said. Cell phones and IDs were found on board. Police found the boat after a nearby resident reported loud music coming from the lake southwest of Mercer Island.
The Coast Guard was notified at 11:51 p.m., Coast Guard Petty Officer Trevor Lilburn told SeattlePI. An active search was conducted by them, the Mercer Island Police Department and Seattle Police Harbor Patrol from Monday night into Tuesday night.
"We searched extensively with our local partners for two days to locate the two people," Lt. Josh McElhaney, the command duty officer at the Sector Puget Sound Command Center said in a news release. "Suspending a search is one of the most difficult decisions the Coast Guard has to make, and it is a decision that is made with great care and deliberation. We search for the missing as if one of our own is missing."
Mercer Island PD did not say whether they suspended the search.
