Dig it! Up to 100 days razor clam digging on Long Beach Peninsula

Early season clam digging dates will soon be announced, after the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife set a harvest quota of 5.2 million razor clams after the summer's final survey on the Long Beach Peninsula.

"Great news!" State Rep. Brian Blake, who represents Southwest Washington, wrote on his Facebook page. To which a friend replied: "That's a lot of clams."

The quota could mean a clam digging season of as long as 100 days.

"We had a lot of little guys last year and not a lot of big clams. We gave them a break to let them grow and that's exactly what happened. We have a great population of harvestable clams. We're going to get back this year what we lost last year."
