First case of vaping-related lung illness in King County identified in teenager

A teenager has been identified as the first person to contract severe lung disease associated with vaping in King County.

Public health officials announced the illness Wednesday in a Public Health Insider post. The teen had been hospitalized for fever, cough and shortness of breath in August.

The patient also reported using e-cigarettes over the past three years, which included propylene glycol and saffron as ingredients. Officials said they were still investigating which type of vaping device was used and whether other substances were also used.

Because of a recent nationwide outbreak of vaping-related lung illnesses, health officials issued a warning against e-cigarette use.

Article doesn't say how old the teenager was. If he was under 18 how did he obtain the vape product?
