More than 1,900 homeless households moved into housing this year, city reports
More than 1,900 households experiencing homelessness in Seattle found housing during the first six months of 2019, according to data released this week from the city.
Seattle's Human Services Department released performance data from the first half of the year for programs that receive city funding, reporting that 1,936 unique households -- which represented 3,042 individuals -- were homeless and were moved into housing. That number reflects a 6% increase from the same time period in 2018.
According to the data, 461 households, which includes 704 individuals, were housed and did not become homeless due to homelessness prevention programs.
The data released also finds more than 2,000 households that had experienced chronic homelessness were able to remain in permanent supportive housing during the first six months of the year, keeping them stably housed.
The city said it wants to make homelessness "rare, brief and one-time."
