Thousands join Climate Strike in Seattle: Networking for the planet
Thousands of climate strikers, young people from Seattle's Capitol Hill and tech employees from the Amazon Spheres converged on Seattle City Hall on Friday as part of an action that brought hundreds of thousands of marchers to the streets of the world's major cities.
The message of the protests was summed up in a sign held up from Seattle to Sydney: "There is no planet B." It even appeared on the Facebook page of University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce, along with the addition: "Planet A is so fantastic."
At Cal Anderson Park, high school students wrote out signs urging government action on global warming, and browsed booths recruiting activists for various climate causes.
"We do not have time to be polite," said student Susan Murray, writing out her sign in felt pen.
Derek Richards, chair of the King County Young Democrats, wrote on his Facebook page, "So inspired by what I'm seeing today."
