'One of the greatest discus throwers of all time': 2-time Marysville Olympian found dead
MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- An Olympic athlete who left a tremendous legacy in the discus throwing community in the Northwest and beyond has died.
Marysville native Jarred Rome was 42.
"The career that he had, he was one of the greatest discus thrower of all time," said Mike Torie, who coached Rome.
Rome grew up in Marysville and attended Marysville-Pilchuck High School before he went on to represent the United States at Olympic Games in 2004 and 2012.
"What he was able accomplish was amazing," said Torie.
Rome was in town to celebrate his induction into the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame, but Friday night he told friends he wasn't feeling well. He was found dead on Saturday.
