A Washington state representative plans to sponsor legislation next session that aims to ban flavored vaping products.
Rep. Gerry Pollet, D-Seattle, called it an "emergency" and said both lawmakers and state health officials are figuring out what options are available after hundreds of people across the country have been diagnosed with vaping-related illnesses.
We know there are toxic substances in these products, and they are mostly associated with flavors, and we need to ban them, said Pollet.
There have been six cases of lung illnesses associated with vaping in Washington state, with the most recent case being in Snohomish County.

(33,643 posts)From whence the f*** are these lawmakers coming up with this nonsense?
Are you still going to allow 'tobacco flavor'? Cause that's STILL A FLAVORING. It's not like leave out the flavoring in vape juice and you're left with tobacco flavor. You're left with NO FLAVOR. You have to add 'tobacco flavor' and it's no different/known to be more safe than 'other flavors'.
Such crap, man ...

Yes I know there are pipe tobaccos which are flavored too.

(33,643 posts)Seems pretty fucking clear to me what the 'point' ... is. The 'flavors ARE toxic' is what he's saying. And there's NO SUCH LINK established in any of these cases.
There is however a VERY STRONG LINK between tainted THC cartridges cut with Vitamin E Acetate ... and these illnesses.
Flavored pipe tobacco is different. If you take out the 'flavor', you'd still have 'tobacco flavor' ... tobacco. Take out the 'flavoring' from e-juice, and it is NOT TOBACCO FLAVOR. It's NO flavor. You have to ADD BACK IN some chemical that supposedly 'tastes like tobacco', but which is NOT tobacco, nor is it likely even derived from tobacco.
E-juice with no flavorings added at all is basically totally unusable as a product.

(10,178 posts)Ive never seen anything like the hysteria over this thing.NPR interviewed a guy that has owned a vape shop for 4 years.......laying off his 3 employees and filing for bankruptcy. Madness.

(33,643 posts)They make their money selling flavored e-juices and vaping products.
Worldwide this is a multi-billion $ industry, small businesses cutting into Big Tobacco's profits for over a decade.
Banning flavored e-juice basically instantly puts them all out of business and into MASSIVE DEBT in many cases as I'm sure much of their product in-store is bought with debt and now they can't sell any of it.
Meanwhile, the Big Tobacco-owned companies like Juul and Blu and such ... products that cost 3-10X MORE per use than e-juice from your local vape shop, I might add ... are going to stay on the shelves all over the state.
This WHOLE F***ING flavored juice ban is a HUGE FAVOR to Big Tobacco, it 100% helps them, and crushes small businesses.
What they need to do if they're maybe to survive is to start selling plain juice (VG/PG/Nicotine) and then selling the food flavorings SEPARATELY.
Not the shops responsibility if people choose to mix the food flavorings in w/the juice when they get home, is it now?

(33,643 posts)If that's true and people can't even buy Juul, etc? This whole thing is going to be a catastrophe ... people will have no choice but to drive to neighboring states to get their supplies ... or re-take up smoking cigarettes, which we KNOW are deadly, but remain on the shelves.
I suppose a certain % will quit due to the inconvenience, but I bet it won't be many. In the end, the rates of smoking cigarettes will increase in the idiotic states that choose the hysterical response of banning flavored e-juice. INCLUDING TEENS.
