'Grotesque abuse,' 'hyper partisan': Washington's Congress members react to impeachment inquiry
Democrats in Washington's congressional delegation were united on Tuesday with a clear message: President Donald Trump has committed a clear and present violation of his office by refusing to give Congress a whistle blower complaint, and seeking dirt on opponent Joe Biden from a foreign leader.
But Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., accused Democrats of rushing to "unfounded conclusions" with Speaker Nancy Pelosi's announcement of an impeachment inquiry. She decried "the hyper partisan political climate today."
"I'm pleased the President is being transparent and releasing the transcript of the conversation this week," McMorris Rodgers said in a statement. Trump suddenly announced Tuesday he will release a transcript of his July conversation with new Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"This is not about transcripts," tweeted Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
"This is about the President abusing his power to ask a foreign country to manufacture evidence against his political opponent that will help President Trump in his election -- and withholding aid to that country. That is a crime, transcript or no transcript."
