Seattle families rush to meet Jan. 8 vaccination deadline for students
Hundreds of Seattle families are rushing to make sure their children can come back to school after winter break, as if they're not incompliance with vaccination requirements, the district won't allow them in the classroom.
A new state law that took effect in July means families can no longer opt out of getting the MMR vaccine because of personal or philosophical reasons.
At Seattle Public Schools, officials said last Tuesday, 2,274 students got letters they would be kept out of school on Jan. 8 if they don’t meet all their vaccination requirements.
"When epidemics start, they often start with children," says Washington 8th District Rep. Kim Schrier. "Children are cramped together in the classroom, they're not controlling their own germs, and so when we can protect kids, we protect the whole community."

He said he had a religious objection to getting the flu vaccine. I lost my temper with him and shot back "It's too bad you don't have a religious objection to infecting people with deadly diseases!"
He crumbled and got his immunization. Some religious commitment. 
I'm glad my outburst got results, but I don't intend to use the tactic again.
